Katie Lew is a multimedia ceramic artist exploring the relationships between unlikely materials. Based in Toronto, Lew draws inspiration from both creations of the natural world and the fabrications of humanity. While exploring cycles of movement and growth, the tensions of materiality examine the consistent contradictions of the world around us. By combining materials that would not normally stand side by side, Lew’s work asks us to reflect on the idea that multiple truths can coexist despite conflicting foundations. Her work attempts to balance opposing forces, allowing the viewer to recognize familiar terrestrial aspects, but also confront otherworldly components. Lew’s curiosity self-generates as moments of fragility and balance, growth and decay continue to intersect.
